Beach And SUP Yoga

Come and join me in the great outdoors! We will sink our awareness to our beautiful surroundings, feeling the sun across our skin and mesmerised by the sound of the ocean. The classes incorporate mindful breathing and meditation, flowing movements with sand between our toes and a smile on our faces, a variety of postures and end with a deep relaxation (Shavasana).  Expect to have a fun! I offer a playful, gentle flow in a positive space where you can be yourself and leave with a smile on your face and love in your heart.  Whether you are beginning your yoga journey or would like to deepen your practice further, the classes provide adjustments and adaptations to suit your needs.  In all of  my classes I act as a guide and you take full control of what your body would like to do, it's your practice and your body, you know your body better than anyone else ever could.  I focus on self-love and compassion towards ourselves, there is no judgement, no expectations, all I ask is that you find what feels good, follow your curiosity and above all have fun - we'll laugh, smile and not take ourselves too seriously.

What to expect

Once you have parked up, bring everything that you need down to the beach with you. Walking onto the beach you will see the Becky Hickman Yoga windbreaks. Come and say hi and join me if you're early! You would have received an email prior to class to let you know which side of the beach you are gong to be on.

Whether it's your first time stepping on the mat or you're an advanced practitioner, there will be something for you.  It is so magical practising outside in nature, drawing all our awareness to your senses, listening to the sound of the ocean, breathing in the fresh salty air and allowing yourself to settle into the present moment. For the beach yoga we will be flowing through a vinyasa flow style, focusing on strength and balance throughout our class in a fun lighthearted way spending time at the end of class to hold deep stretches before enjoying a well deserved shavasana. 

When arriving for Sup yoga, give yourself plenty of time to set your board up or collect your board and arrive 10mins before class time to fill out some forms before we head out on the water.  These classes will be a wonderful balance between giggling our way through some challenging postures and finding complete tranquility. You can enjoy soaking up the sun's rays, the gentle lapping of the water on the boards and feel your whole body just exhale. One of the benefits of practising yoga on a paddleboard is that it's a sneaky all-over workout, whilst getting the sense of freedom from being on the water and joy from becoming completely present in the moment.

We Love Discovery Surf and Beach barista

Haven’t got a paddleboard?  No problem!  I have teamed up with the wonderful Discovery Surf School who have kindly offered a discounted SUP hire rate of £15 for the hour!  This is payable on the day, so please remember to bring card/cash along with you for this.

Discovery also hire out wetsuits if you would like to wear one (prices here). If so, please give enough time to hire and get changed before we meet on the beach for the safety briefing (which commences 10 minutes before scheduled start time).

What to wear

The choice is all yours! ​

I would recommend a light top (If you have a rash vest, that would work great!) with leggings or shorts that are light material and that you wouldn't mind getting wet​, honestly anything that you are comfortable in!

Be sure to bring with you a change of clothes including a jumper and socks so you can get nice and toasty after class.

Of course if you would be more comfortable wearing a wetsuit, please do!

You can wear your choice of swimwear under your clothes or stick to your normal workout underwear. 

Weather-dependent

Please note, classes are subject to date change and weather conditions.  Look out for an email from me the night before class to confirm that the conditions will be suitable and class will be going ahead.

If conditions are not suitable, the class will be rescheduled or you can opt for an alternative experience (e.g. a coastal walk, a slice of delicious home-baked cake and yoga class on a sheltered beach and walk back to Bigbury after - maybe even have a little swim if you are feeling up to it!)

If no suitable date is available for a rescheduled SUP class and you don't want the alternative experience offered, you will be offered a refund.
